Philosophy: We believe that horse and rider mutually benefit from instruction that focuses on safety, respect and fun. Students will be taught using a well-rounded approach to learning horsemanship skills including Horse Care & Handling, Horse Anatomy & Colors, Tack & Equipment, Groundwork/Natural Horsemanship Techniques, and Riding Skills. Utilizing our Horsemanship Skills Checklists, students will advance through Levels I-V, with fun games on horseback to support each level of instruction and awards given upon completion of each level. English and Western saddles are available. We usually start beginner students with a Western saddle on a lunge line and when their balance and ability warrants, move to an English saddle and even occasionally bareback.
Scheduling: Private and small group lessons are offered September through November as well as February through May. No lessons are scheduled during the summer due to summer camps and we take a winter break in December and January. Students can schedule weekly or bi-weekly lessons.
PLEASE NOTE: Our current kids' lesson schedule is full for after school and weekend classes! If you would like to be added to a wait list for lessons and/or if you have a child that is available during weekday hours, please e-mail us at horses@briargatefarm.com

End-of-Session Horse Show!
On May 23, 2009, we held our first annual End-of-Session Horse Show for Briar Gate Farm riding students. Eleven students participated and got a chance to show off their knowledge and skills in Levels I-IV. It was a great day full of smiles and pride! We even had a bake sale and cook-out to celebrate and to raise money for the Briar Gate Farm Scholarship Fund.
